Fondation Folon
Reservations are only required for activities, workshops and visits led by a Foundation animator. 20 minutes south of Brussels, in the wonderful Solvay park, the Ferme du Château de La Hulpe houses the Fondation Folon. It presents more than forty years of creation, in a lively and original scenography imagined by the Belgian artist, Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005). He opens the book of his life to us. Through the pages, the visitor discovers the multiple facets of his art and his universe among the 350 works on display: watercolors, serigraphs, engravings, posters, diverted objects, stained glass, sculptures and optical effects enliven an interactive journey: we enters a huge book, one enters the head of the Blue Man, one gets lost in games of mirrors, one discovers endless posters and the secrets of the artist's workshop, to end the journey under a myriad of stars. Musée de la Photographie
Considered to be the largest and one of the most important photography museums in Europe, the Museum of Photography - Centre for Contemporary Art of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, has settled in 1987 in a former neo-Gothic CarmeliteConvent to which a dary architectural contemporary wing was added in 2008. Nestled in a 85 ares pa rk, the Museum has an exhibition space of more than 2,200 m² where photography reveals its artistic and technical diversity. Over 800 photographs taken from a rich collection of 80,000 photos and 3 million negatives, the permanent exhibition relates the history of photography from pioneers to nowadays in Belgium and around the world. In the cloister showcase, the collection of cameras recounts the history of the photographic equipment sorted by families, according to the evolution of its forms and its technical specificities (Snapshots, tropical, detectives, stereo, folding, box ...). Displayed in five dedicated rooms, fifteen temporary exhibitions explore each year all aspects of the medium in order to sketch a panorama of photography, in Belgium and internationally, in history and nowadays. Trough an educational approach, the Discovery Trail also accompanies young and old visitoir, every curious person along the photography adventure, from optical illusions to the photographer's language. Several associated services are also open to the public: The Library : open to amateurs, students and researchers. Musée René Magritte & Musée d'Art Abstrait
The René Magritte Museum is situated in the house where the famous, surrealist artist lived and worked for 24 years (1930-54). Magritte lived on the ground floor and built in the back of the garden Studio Dongo, where he executed designs for publicity work. He painted most of the time in the living room annex atelier. In that room he would produce more or less half the amount of his paintings and gouaches. The headquarters of the Belgian Surrealists was also in the Esseghemstraat 135, where they held their meetings on Saturday evenings and where they organized several tableaux vivants.
